Spend Time, Save Money, DIY

I am a cabinet maker and joiner by trade and I'm also a DIY and tool geek.
I'm currently renovating an old house. There is a huge amount of work to do and I'm doing most of it myself to save money. I thought it would be good to make "how to" and "progress" videos to show how it can be done and to help/inspire others.
I also plan to renovate my garage and turn it into a workshop.

You are just awesome. Can we use it on the outside wall please. Thanks so much for your presentation
Thanks!
We have condensation problems in the loft, could this be fitted in the loft without the vent part in the ceiling perhaps?
What annoys me is the way flymo cables break internally with no external signs of where the break is. I'm really careful not to cut through it while cutting, but I've got such a big lawn and it gets a fair bit of stress. I'm finding they break inside after two or three years just through normal use, normally it is near the point where the cable enters the mower, but it can be anywhere.
Will this adhere to an old emulsioned brick wall ...
Thank you. Very useful
We installed a PIV (same make) 5 years ago. Hasn’t made any discernible difference yet. Sadly.
What they don't tell you is they don't suit every home, there are a set of conditions or criteria these units are suitable for which this video does not cover. A great video but it can only show you the positives in a house where it appears to work well but some people I know have installed them and they don't work so great.
They really do work - I considered the heater version, but it’s really not necessary. Easy to install and our house just feels more comfortable. I’d argue that they save you money - it’s cheaper to heat a dryer house.
Great video. I have some questions please... How frequently do the filters require changing? Will it increase condensation in the loft area? Will the loft require ventilating? How is it affected opening windows in the home? How much did it increase your electric bill? Thank you
I can see how one would be good for rooms immediately under the loft space, but wouldn't be able to fit where the room affected by mould/condensation has a habitable room above.
It doesn't marry up properly and the arks look ¼ inch thick ,it will never look right and thats my reputation gone down the drain after 35 yrs ,and its all about reputation once you lose that your going to struggle for work. 😢 Have you ever heard the saying, if a job is worth doing its worth doing properly .And the saying that I I've been telling all my regular and new customers is, I promise you that I'll never do any joinery or any work in your home that I'm not prepared to have in my own home I'm a perfectionist, that's how I was trained over my 10yr apprenticeship trained by the best old time chippy's, still use my Yankee pump now and then. Simple as punch through the 1½ ovals or lost heads or prise off arks and pull out from the back with pinchers and plant on some 1½ rips of ⅜ or ½ inch ply or mdf arise the ede set back an ⅛ and then plant arks on top, easy as pie .well that's how I'd do it 15 minutes longer. It's only my advice, take it or leave it, I mean no offence by my comment, enjoy your work, have pride in your work and you won't go far wrong.
is this video sponsored by Cigman? You should mention this if it is.
Thanks for the video. Can this be wired up with the lighting mains circuit and a fused spur?
One of Europe's best cities to visit. Public transport is also excellent.
Fantastic video, I’ve been looking for months to solve this condensation problem, can’t thank you enough 👏🏽👏🏽
You're welcome, hope it works as well for you as it does for us
I watched a number of these videos trying to get my head round how to do this. This is the clearest and best one I've seen - thank you!
You're welcome, I try to make my how to videos easy to understand and follow no matter what your ability. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment
Have you noticed a drop in temperature. How ofter do the filters need changed as roofspace a arw very dusty
No drop in temperature as the air is heated as it's pumped in. Not sure about filters yet but I suppose it will depend on how dusty the loft space is.
Absolutely trash video. Disliked.
Great video m8 well done, hope it works ok
Thank you 👍🏼
Learned two new tricks. Thanks.
What were the tricks you learned?
👍👍👍 Great review. Thank you
You're welcome, thanks for watching 👍🏼
Expensive way
Been mulling over getting one of these, looks like I will getting one now. I am in a bungalow so its pretty straightforward to get one fitted.
They are really worth it 👍🏼
Any issues with loft smells? Mines a 1930s house too but roof tile direct on Batten (no felt) so I gets a bit musty in winter.
We haven't noticed any smells but our loft is fairly clean with a new roof
We’ve had ours in for just over 5 months (Jan ‘24) the first month or so you can definitely smell the loft but it isn’t overwhelming. It has died down now and only the odd occasion you notice a smell and even then it’s only right under the unit.
I have one of these for a few years. Great, especially for old houses especially.
Good to hear!
Great video. Thanks! How often does the filter need replacing and at what cost?
Not sure about the filter but I suppose it depends how dusty the loft space is
Does this one blow cold air in the the landing or have 400Watt heater built-in that costs more than a few pence per day?
He says in the video around 1:35 about this.
It's got a heater
q. why do you need to test soxkets if you have turned off the electricity from mains?
To make sure you have turned off the correct circuit
Great to have you back. I was beginning to worry.
Thank you, it's good to be back. I've been busy working on other projects but I'm really trying to get back into RUclips
Good to see you back mate. Have you noticed any increase in heating costs due to the cooler air being pumped in? Ive been considering one of these, the idea of continuous fresh air is appealing.
I have one installed come the winter your bills will jump quite abit makes my house really cold
@@chrish3682 how about fitting a solar panel for powering the fan? that might work and pay for the extra electricity used and would be free energy.
Thanks it's good to be back. The air is heated as it's pumped in but people have said even without the heat option on they haven't noticed any difference
@@spendtimesavemoneydiy cheers mate, that's good to hear.
@@THEGSADVENTURER we already have solar panels on the roof as it is so they're offsetting our costs a little bit.
Excellent video, and I'm glad this has resolved your issue. We were experiencing similar a few years back, but luckily, a dehumidifier solved it for us. We bought a Pro Breeze unit and placed it in the cooler part of the house. As you mentioned, keeping to a consistent temperature is also key to this. Thanks again for the video and great channel too.
The dehumidifier just wasn't enough for us. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
Thanks
No problem
👍👍👍👍
Sound common sense advice. Ta Mate !
You're welcome 👍🏼
What the hell is this 🤦♂️
Don't knock it till you've tried it. 3 years on it's sound as a pound 👍🏼
I like the little feed you have on the spindle , it seems very compact! Nice job!
It's a brilliant addition, I wouldn't be without it now
Thanks that was well explained
You're welcome!
Thank you very much, good man
You're welcome!
Mine stopped workin. How do i sort this?
Excellent video, thanks very much.
You're welcome
Cheer~~moisture diffused through the air or a solid substance or condensed on a surface, typically with detrimental or unpleasant effects.😊
I was thinking using a edger and/or trencher might be the easiest and fairly cheep. Any thoughts ? Ps I would not consider those roots >_< lol
Hiya great video. Is there any reason why you nailed the screws in first as opposed to screwing them straight away and not using wall plugs?
It just happened to me, a cut through the lawn mover cable 🫨, can't believe it. Thanks for this great instruction.
Glad it helped
That was a nervy moment I'll bet. Looks like it was laminated glass when it didn't break in pieces. Toughened glass would have shattered. Bet it was heavy to lift also.
It was a nightmare to clear up. I had to cut the film in the centre with a knife to get it apart
Really useful video thanks
You're welcome
Appreciate your video and not wasting time on fluff ❤
I aim for the no nonsense approach 👍🏼
Wow and your not a plasterer wish I could do as good. Great video
You might be good at plastering, you never know unless you have a go 👍🏼
